A Special letter from Hal to our members with Important reminders
HELLO FELLOW MEMBERS,
Sad tidings to start with-- our 34
member rooster has been cut to 32 by illness and death---Long before
they should have left us , we have lost Jay Ross ( with a terminal illlness )
and Ed Stevens who secumed in September ... Both gentleman were steadfast
members and shared a love of our club , that was evident from their level
of participation..... Ed was ever helpful to all, and did his very best to
offer his services for any club endevor undertaken... Jay was always
on top of every major club decision.. His input ,was right on target,
and his suggestions always showed a keen awareness of current club
situations.....Jay spoke up with alacrity and cut thru the nitty gritty , to
make salient points... Both Ed and Jay will be sorely missed... We are
all deminished by their loss. What we do know for sure is: They both
were great supporters of the SFTSC and we know they would like the club
to carry on with continueing success..Our membership would honor them
best, by taking up the slack , and filling the void they have left -This ,
by helping the club to adchieve continued viability and
increased vitality....as said before, the very best thing we as individual
members , can do , to help the club ,IS recruit new members - Our club's
mortality, may be challanged, and recruitment is the primary answer to
off set that....
The executive committee wishes one
and all "HAPPPY HOLIDAYS" and certainly hopes their Thanksgiving was
forfilling and satisfying.... The club will celebrate its 21st year of
continuous operation with its annual HOLIDAY PARTY on Sunday December
14th , after our regular meeting which starts at 10 am.. At 1 pm we
will adjourn to Cheddar's Casual cafe at 7951 West Commercial blvd, just
east of the our meeting place between the" Bedding Barn " and " 711"
service station -- really close by... W e will be gathering at the left
outside patio of Cheddar's and dining alfresco ,under a arbour .. inclosed
find the special menu , "Cheddar's" has set up for us-- The food is
wholesome and each dish , plentiful-- I f you should wish alcoholic
beverages, a CASH BAR is the way to go.. The club welecomes each paid up
member who may bring one guest gratus.. . This is just one of the many
club benefits, 2 free HOLIDAY PARTY chits... a formitable benefit.. If you
should wish to bring MORE than one guest, the tab is $10- each- please pay
our Treasurer this nominal fee if you opt to do this. ( the club picks up
a resididual overage amount, which is still another benefit) Our
current and past Presidents will do the honors as MC 's for this
affair.. Your executive comm. certainly hopes you will be able to make
it... A sample menu is inclosed which consists of a main course( choice of
one) and a non alcoholic beverage-- A package price was arranged with
the most helpful management of Cheddar's, as they do have a very
extensive menu and we had to pare it to suit our particular club
needs... This being said- there are TEN choices for lunch., all delicious
....
President Mike Skurda , has called a
ODD MONTH meeting for January .. It will be Sunday January 11th,2009.
Our annual show is February 8th, which ordinarily would be our meeting
day and Mike will decide whether we will have a regular February
meeting too boot on February 15th,2009-- mainly to discuss how our
annual event went. This is nothing new and the club has preceeded in this
manner in the past.-- AS always , your "SIGHTINGS" newsletter will keep you
abreast of club meeting dates... If you wish to mark your callendar off, it
would help serve as a reminder also... Annually , we do pack more activity
into the winter months , than the rest of the year... That is just the way it
is.
The event comm . has everything under
control at this juncture-- and has reduced the dealer per table price to
$40- each..... In former years we charged $65- per table. a hefty $25-
reduction in price, per table-- The reasoning behind this decision
,as pointed out by a number of members, including President emertus
Frank Burns are pretty stright forward... The economy being what it is,
the lower attractive rate will get the attention of more dealers who may buy
multiple tables due to the lower pricing. Our club expense for the hall is
LESS than it has been in many previous shows.. If we get the a good turn
out thru the door , we will make it up with ease. We need roughly 4 and a
quarter admissions at $6.00 each to recoup the $25-lowering of dealer
tables, to make up the differance in revenue- if we get a good turn out
---all will fit into place nicely. The $6.00 admission fee- has been
compramized somewhat with a $1.00 off admission coupon on our event
flyers.. Again, numbers will boost ,these infringements , to a profitable
show.. Last year we had a dissapointing turn out of less than 400-- OUR
first time at this venue, the economy was bad ( it is worse to day) ,and no
nearby motels w/ reasonable pricing for out of town dealers ie , all
hurt-- 2 of these 3 factors have been addressed, and the poor economy is
out of our control, so we used some , hopefully comman sense measures to
ensure a financially successful show... The measures taken are meant to
increase club revenenues by enticing dealers( lower table costs) and show
goers ( one dollar off coupon) to attend.. over 500 attendance is our
goal -- you can help by talking it up for our club show--..; on January
10,2009 the table prices for dealers reverts to$75- per table, a really
smart move by our event comm. Now to get the word out,,
The October 12th meeting was well
attended. with over 50 percent of the membership present -- Tony Angellora
again provided a tasty luncheon.. There was a auction, which saw spirited
bidding and the club gained a commission on sales-- all handled with
authority by our executive committee members. The even steven club
raffle, won by Jon lolha brought in some more revenue ...All in all the club
netted over $40- for these endevors- nothing to sneeze at.. There were some
guests present at this meeting, noteably, former member Steve Smiles who was
most welecome... Sure wish Steve would rejoin our ranks. There were spirited
discussions at this meeting,as behoves a large turn out . ,most
invigorating discussions , to be sure, along with a great show and tell
portion , it was a outstanding meeting..
Dues for 2009 are now being accepted. Our
ever faithful member Rick DeSanto has the honor being the first member to
REUP for 2009. Way to go , Rick. Please make prompt payment for 2009 to
our treasurer ( see envelope for address) and dues checks should be made
out to SFTSC,Inc ----,makes it SO MUCH easier all around - The dues are
still only $30 per year, and $15.00 per year for those living outside of
the tricounty area-- There will be no separate Dues notices. Your reup
is a essencial factor in the continuing prosperity of our club
GOOD AND WELEFARE- Thanx to Curt
Sleight for putting out our " SIGHTINGS "newsletter for October- We are
sure it will not be the last time.-- Curt is good at it and hopefully
will take over when he is ready,, Again , the two caviats for all of
us members to harken to most seriously- We need new members, AND we need a
financially successful show to continue our many perks as privlieged SFTSC
members. Pitch in in both of these endevors, and our club will
noticeably reap the benefits...
After many a procrastination your Webmaster has finally put
